Meet Evan, a tattoo artist, a muralist, and a fine artist. We first discovered Evan after seeing some of his murals (like the one in Tik Tok’s NYC office) and then became captivated by his painterly tattoos. We caught up with Evan to hear how he found his way to this creative career.

How did you start your multi-hyphenate career as a painter, muralist & tattooer?

About seven years ago, I moved to New York to get my Masters degree in printmaking from Pratt Institute. After I graduated, I was a professional screen printer, wallpaper designer and muralist. As a hobby I’ve always collected vintage floral ephemera, like fabrics and postcards, which inspire my work. One year for Christmas, my husband gave me a tattoo kit as a gift, so I tattooed myself first, then friends, and it grew from there. I’ve been tattooing now for almost five years and co-own a shop called Yarrow Studio in Greenpoint.

What's your favorite part about the New York creative community?

I really feel like I found my creative community in New York once I started tattooing. I’ve learned so much from fellow tattooer friends and doing tattoo trades. Tattooers in the queer tattoo scene all so supportive of each other, it is amazing!

What's inspiring you right now?

Friends! I’ve missed socializing so much since COVID began and it finally feels okay to hang with friends regularly again. I’ve forgotten how much creative fuel I get from laughing with friends. :)
